Samsung launches Portable SSD T7 Resurrected

Samsung Electronics announced today, November 29, the global launch of the Portable SSD T7 Resurrected, an update to its popular external storage lineup. Available starting in December, the new model keeps the familiar design while adding capacities up to 4TB and addressing the sustained-performance limits of the original T7.

Practical update over new architecture

Rather than introducing a new platform, Samsung focused on optimizing a mature product. The T7 Resurrected is aimed at maintaining stability for heavy workloads, answering growing demands from content creators who work with high-resolution video files.

Focus on sustained performance

The headline numbers remain the same: sequential read speeds up to 1050 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 1000 MB/s, leveraging a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) interface. The engineering work centered on internal thermal management.

The original T7 was fast in short bursts but faced criticism for thermal throttling during large transfers. Samsung says the T7 Resurrected uses a redesigned heat spreader and improved thermal interface materials. According to the company, these changes let the drive sustain peak transfer speeds for significantly longer periods before any performance reduction occurs.

Expanded capacity and improved durability

Externally, the drive retains the compact, minimalist aluminum chassis that made the series popular. Samsung also says the construction now includes a higher percentage of recycled materials to align with the company’s sustainability goals.

Durability has been upgraded as well. The T7 Resurrected carries an IP65 rating, giving it dust resistance and protection against low-pressure water jets, and it is rated for drops up to 3 meters.

Storage options now include a new 4TB variant alongside 1TB and 2TB models. The drive keeps broad platform compatibility with Windows, macOS, and Android, and ships with both USB-C–to–C and USB-C–to–A cables.

Conclusion

Samsung’s T7 Resurrected takes a pragmatic route. Instead of pushing users to faster but less widely adopted interfaces like USB4 or Thunderbolt, the company refined a proven design. By improving thermal management and expanding the top capacity to 4TB, the T7 Resurrected positions itself as a reliable work tool for professionals, maximizing what a 10Gbps interface can deliver.
